For many children in Hawai'i, "school's out" means missing out on a meal every day. For our 2018 United Way Day of Action, we decided to help serve meals to these children at Kuhio Park Terrace (KPT).
School supplies can be an added expense for those who are already struggling to afford basic food and housing. Each year, thanks to the generosity of individuals, organizations and partners, ALICE individuals and families and homeless youth receive the necessary tools to excel in their current and future educational careers through our annual school supply drive.
Super happy to celebrate another Earth Day with our Hawaii Cares volunteers and Society of Young Leaders. This year, we were grateful to spend the day at Hawaii Nature Center!
We set a goal with Project Vision Hawaii to provide 6,000 showers to homeless individuals and families in 2018. We began a toiletries drive in January to prepare a mobile hygiene unit to go live on February 28, 2018, and we are so in awe of what all our efforts have achieved.
What a great morning spent volunteering to support Barnes and Noble in their efforts to promote literacy in our community!
A perfect example of people coming together to join our movement here at Aloha United Way. After a culmination of several agencies donating and transporting goods, today we had over 55 volunteers come together to pack close to 60,000 flatware and cutlery items which equated to about 2,000 kits in support of our homeless community.
On Saturday, September 16, about 20 Hawaii Cares members got up bright and early to volunteer their time as part of our Aloha United Way Hawaii Cares group to beautify, spruce up and paint the second floor of the University Lab School (walls only, no doors!) as one of our quarterly community projects.
